both have pros and cons - somehow week day is more serious, its worth taking time out to come. weekend is casual, this is what I do for fun. or this is work - so schedule it in work time, weekends is me time and family time - I'm not going to work.…

We have been talking about running the next series in March rather than February as we previously suggested. The big question is whether a week day or weekend would be better?

Hey Paul Lets start working on another alt conference - like last time lets set a date and just do it. March 15 sounded like a good date (except for Caesar) - Its a Monday - but what say you? Walter

Howzit, exciting! I would like to have Max Kaizen first, I feel it could stir up conversation, and set the tone for the day.

Alt.conference v2 - let's start talking

Paul Cartmel from New Media Labs (altconf's excellent Cape Town partner) and I have started talking about the next iteration of alt.conference. We are thinking about running the next set of events in Cape Town and Joburg in February 2010. This time the events will take place on different days.

I have a few ideas about the theme for v2 but I'd like to hear from you and what you would like the theme to be. Who would you like to hear from? Do you want to change the format, time of day, catering ch… Continue

Alt.conference - more social than media

About 45 people came together in two locations for the inaugural alt.conference events held simultaneously in Cape Town and Johannesburg on 4 July. I came up with the idea for alt.conference a couple months ago during a conversation with Hunter of Genius, Max Kaizen. It was an experiment in a few ways. On one hand I had never organised something quite li… Continue

Getting down to the nuts and bolts

Hi everyone

Ok, we are planning catering and other details for the Joburg and CT events. I am thinking about platters from a place like Sandwich Baron (http://www.sandwichbaron.com/platters.php) and would like to get some feedback from people who are intererested in the Joburg event. There are quite a few options available including vegetarian platters. Of course I am happy to look at alternatives if you would prefer.

As for the CT event,… Continue

Who would you like to hear from, talk to?

I am putting together a list of people I'd like to invite to speak at alt.conference. I have a pretty good idea who I would like to be there but who would you like to hear from or have a conversation with? What about having a panel discussion with your dream team of SA social media gurus? Who would you like to have on a panel? What would you like the discussion to be about?

I am talking about SA speakers by the way.

The Big Idea

This was originally published on the Facebook Group on 20 March 2009

I was chatting to Max Kaizen earlier today about an invitation I received to speak at a social media conference in June. I pointed out that the attendees at these conferences are frequently people who are already involved in social/online media/marketing/development (you know, the believers). These people… Continue
